Steinaker State Park

Steinaker State Park is a 2,200 acre state park located in northeastern Utah. The park is centered on the Steinaker Dam and Reservoir, which, like the park, are named for the pioneer John Steinaker. The park, a seven-mile drive north of Vernal, Utah, offers a variety of water recreation on the reservoir, as well as camping and outdoor exploration.

Activities

Most of the activities available at the park center on the reservoir. The excellent fishing for bass and rainbow trout is a popular attraction. Swimming, boating and water skiing on the lake are all available; the park's day-use fee covers boat launches. A sandy beach area adjoins the reservoir for sunbathing and beach sports.

Lodging

Steinaker State Park provides developed campsites and RV hookups. Thirty-one sites are available, eight of which have electric, water and sewer connections. The remaining sites have no hookups; most are designed for tent camping. The campsites offer picnic tables and grills. Restrooms are available in the campground, but no shower facilities are available. There are two group-use camping shelters.

Nearby attractions

The park makes an excellent base for exploring the so-called "dinosaur country" nearby. Dinosaur National Monument and Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area (both federally-managed recreation areas) are nearby, as is the Red Fleet State Park. Salt Lake City is approximately 181 miles to the west.

Though somewhat remote, Steinaker State Park offers a wealth of outdoor recreation in a beautiful setting. Well-worth the stop on any journey, Steinaker is a comfortable gateway to the vast outdoors of northeastern Utah.
