Sand Hollow State Park

An official park since 2003, Sand Hollow State Park is located in Washington County in southern Utah. The area is about 20,600 acres, and its elevation is around 3,000 feet. This park is especially well known for its 15,000 acres of sand dunes. The closest town, Hurricane, lies nine miles to the northeast.
Hours and fees
Sand Hollow State Park is open throughout the year with no holiday closures, and offers three varieties of overnight camping. The west side campground includes full hookups, the sandpit campground has no hookups and the primitive area has no facilities. Adult visitors can purchase a day pass for $10, while Utah seniors pay $5. Another option is a $75 adult season pass or a $35 senior season pass. Additional fees are charged for use of the campgrounds and the park gates are closed overnight.
Amenities and activities
The park contains a visitor center, hiking trails, picnic area, dump station, showers, bathrooms, ATV trails and a boat dock. Permitted activities include biking, boating, camping, fishing, ATV riding and horseback riding. Many people kayak, swim or fish in Sand Hollow Reservoir, which contains bluegill and trout.
Sand dunes
The red surfaces of the acres of sand dunes within Sand Hollow State Park attract thousands of annual visitors who zoom over the terrain on vehicles that include dune buggies and dirt bikes. Of the dunes' 15,000 acres, off-highway vehicles are allowed on 6,000 of them. Riders must follow safety rules, such as using whiptail flags and not drinking alcohol.
Sand Hollow State Park attracts visitors from all over who want to revel in the freedom of riding their off-highway vehicles over picturesque sand dunes. People who prefer other activities can take their choice of horseback riding, boating, canoeing, hiking and several other options.
